A Brief History
SkyReel Aerial Imaging was founded in 2006 by Noel Zinger and Robin Sundal and started offering the unique perspective of close-range aerial imaging in the film and television industry. It is a 2 person owner, operator team, occasionally hiring additional talent depending on the number of jobs and scope of work. Noel and Robin are both experienced, award-winning photographers who bring their creative vision and imaging talents to their flying.
While this work was interesting, industrial challenges called and SkyReel began shifting into industrial inspection services, primarily in the energy sector. SkyReel began pioneering flare stack inspections in western Canada in 2007 and 2008 and was sought out by Shell Energy Canada to inspect a series of flare stacks in southern Alberta as a pilot project for the energy giant! Since then, SkyReel has been an industry leader, working with most of the major Energy producers throughout western Canada to introduce aerial imaging services, , provide flare stack inspection, and surveying, mapping, thermal, and promotional imaging.
In 2009, SkyReel collaborated with a German engineering team to design the world’s first UAV to carry a full-size motion picture camera, specifically the RED ONE. This work led the team to work for Shark Week for Discovery Channel as well as numerous independent production houses.
Fast forward to 2017/2018 when Associated Engineering (a large Canadian Engineering Firm), approached SkyReel to pilot and collaborate on a series of bridge inspections in Alberta. The inspections were successful and both parties took away ideas on how to improve the process, including: equipment changes and additions and post-processing methods. SkyReel continues to acquire aerial bridge inspection work.
